There are more than a few concerns at Newcastle at present, but the long-term future of Salomon Rondon is undeniably one of the most pressing.
Rondon has impressed this season, and he’s offered Newcastle a valuable attacking option. However, he’s only at the club on a one-year loan deal, and as a result, at present, he’s on course to leave at the end of the season.
Naturally, knowing how resistant Mike Ashley has been to heavy investment, that will leave fans worried that he could leave.
Rondon said: “I love being here. When you are a footballer it can be a difficult career but you have to enjoy it and being here is great for me.”
He later added: “I’m only on loan so you never know what happens. If I could stay many years here I’d love to. I love wearing the number 9 and scoring goals for the team.”
Of course, his desire means little if Newcastle don’t want to get the deal done, but these comments are what fans will want to hear.
Rondon is, rightfully, a very popular man at the club, given how well he’s done this season. He’s a hard worker, he’s a goalscorer, and he always gives 100%. So, news that he wants to stay long-term will go down well.
However, now the ball is in the court of the Magpies. If they don’t manage to seal a deal, you can imagine that Mike Ashley will get even less popular.
