According to a report in the Football Insider, Newcastle’s talisman Callum Wilson is confident that he will be fit enough to play some part in United’s crucial upcoming clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Wilson has been unavailable since the 3-2 win over Southampton in February, when he had to be taken off as a result of a hamstring injury.

Despite being able to walk off the pitch relatively freely, the England international has had to watch from the stands as his side won none of the next six games, with relegation worries intensifying with each one.

If anyone can halt our inevitable slump to the Championship, it is Callum Wilson. The former Bournemouth man has proved to be an incredible bit of business by the club and he is still by far our highest scorer.

Wilson boasts an impressive 10 league goals for the Magpies this season, which is four higher than our top scorer (Jonjo Shelvey) managed in the entirety of last season.

It is not just goals that the 29-year old brings to the table when he is on the pitch as he also has five assists to his name. 15 goal contributions in 21 appearances, playing for a side as uninspiring as Newcastle is nothing short of an incredible achievement and it is no surprise that we have missed our number 13 so much.

To put that into further context to show just how impressive that is, as a team we have only managed a measly 28 goals which means that despite his two spells on the sidelines through injury, Wilson has scored or assisted over 53% of our goals.

Newcastle really struggle for goals when Wilson is not in the side and this is shown by the fact that we have managed just three goals from the six games that he has been missing.

Spurs are a side that blow hot and cold and if we can be lucky to enough to catch them on an off day, having Wilson back in the side would be a huge boost to help the side hopefully get some much needed points on board.
