Journalist, Mike McGrath has taken to twitter to claim that Ciaran Clark is close to joining Sheffield United on a season-long loan.
Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal for Ciaran Clark to join Sheffield United on loan. #SUFC closing in on a season-long move for the #NUFC centre-back

Clark is surplus to requirements at Newcastle and has been told to train with the Under 23’s. He was also left out of the squad which faced local club, Gateshead on Saturday where the Magpies triumphed with an emphatic 5-1 win.
Ciaran Clark has served the club well and was a key figure in Newcastle’s promotion season and managed to put in some good performances when they returned to the top flight. However, in the last couple of seasons, especially the previous campaign, Clark has been somewhat error-prone as he seems to have lost a yard of pace.
Now 32, moving down to a top Championship side would be an ideal switch for Clark who could still do a job, but as far as Newcastle are concerned, his current ability is way off the standard the club are aiming for now.
The Irish international only has a year left on his Newcastle contract, so a season-long loan would mean that we have seen the last of Clark in a black and white shirt.
