Stop me if you’ve heard this one: Newcastle will go up against Arsenal in the race for the signature of a Brazilian midfielder from Lyon.
We all remember how the last scenario played out as Newcastle snaked Bruno Guimaraes out from under the noses of Arsenal, a fact which made it into Bruno’s amazing announcement video. And now, given that we already have his best mate at the club, you’d expect that if the rumours at true and both clubs are poised to make a bid for Lucas Paqueta, you’d think it would take something special from the Gunners to turn his head from linking up with Bruno at Newcastle.
French publication Media Foot claim that Newcastle have already lodged a €40m bid for Paqueta, although those reports haven’t surfaced anywhere else as of yet.
Fans will no doubt be glad to see Paqueta’s name back in the mix as all signs were pointing towards this one being a total no-go. Although today’s rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, it’s hard not to get carried away at the thought of Bruno, Lucas and Joelinton in our midfield.

However this plays out from Newcastle’s point of view, it does seem extremely likely that the Gunners will be making a move as they’ve been keeping an eye on Paqueta for a while. They’re not short of Brazilian talent themselves having just signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
