Plenty of Newcastle United fans blasted midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for his performance during his side’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The Magpies were unable to capitalise on an early goal from Dwight Gayle in the second half as the Villans’ Ahmed El-Mohamady cancelled him out to ensure that the spoils were shared.

The result meant that Newcastle remained in 13th place and are now 12 points above the relegation zone and almost safe.

Shelvey was one of the players targeted for his outing, having lost possession 17 times, had no successful crosses and did not win any aerial duels, as per Sofascore.

With this in mind, supporters were not impressed with Shelvey’s outing and made their feelings clear on social media. The former Liverpool midfielder was labelled with several names. “Cart horse”, “utter donkey” and a “lazy boy” were a few to mention.
