Many Newcastle United fans were left incensed by Joelinton’s performance during his side’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old found himself substituted early during the encounter as his side failed to capitalise on their early second-half lead.
Dwight Gayle came off the bench to score after just three minutes of being on the pitch. But Villa’s Ahmed El-Mohamady levelled the affair with seven minutes of normal time to play.
Joelinton is a deeply unpopular figure on Tyneside after starting his Premier League career poorly since his £40m move from the Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, scoring just two goals from 29 starts.
Did Joelinton play well vs Villa?
Yes
No
During the 64 minutes he spent on the pitch, he won just three duels out of 23, losing 19 of them and did not complete a single dribble during the game, as per Sofascore.
Unsurprisingly, supporters were left livid with the Brazilian’s performance and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan described him as “absolutely terrible” and “awful”, while another believes he “just isn’t that” in this Newcastle team.

Gayle is a finisher. Joelinton wouldn’t have scored that (sorry to be negative but that’s the reality)

That’s what strikers do. Sorry Joelinton you’re just not a forward pal

We need a proper striker up front, Joelinton just isn’t that

Don’t care what anyone says, Carroll is a much better CF than Joelinton! #NUFC

Absolutely terrible so far joelinton and shelvey have been awful. Shelvey needs to get up and support front players more and joelinton has just been regular joelinton.
