Jamaal Lascelles has been with Newcastle United, apart from his time at Nottingham Forest, for the best part of four years. In his younger days, he represented England at various youth levels, and many thought his development was steadily improving.

However, this season’s performances suggest the 24-year-old needs to step up if he wants to reach his full potential. I appreciate the lad is still learning his trade but if he doesn’t show signs of making ‘the next level’ what can his possible future international future hold (if any)?

Am I too critical?

I wouldn’t say our Captain is a born leader. Nevertheless, I don’t see a queue waiting in the wings to replace him either.

Last time out vs. Leicester City

Maguire was too powerful for Jamaal to handle. On a positive note he kept Vardy at bay.

I don’t want to sound disrespectful but let’s face it. Jamaal Lascelles is never going to be a world beater, is he?
