Newcastle United’s wait for a victory in 2018-19 continues as a goalless draw with Southampton on Saturday extended the winless run in the Premier League to 10 matches.
Rafael Benitez’s side offered very little in the game, not even managing to have a single shot on target, and the performance has caused an increasing amount of concern for supporters on social media.
Few players impress at the weekend but supporters were extremely disappointed with the display shown by Mohamed Diame, who some claimed was ‘back to his old self’ after showing some signs of improvement earlier this year.
Diame has been ever-present in Benitez’s midfield so far this season but some fans clearly want the 31-year-old to be replaced in the squad after a forgetful performance in the middle of the park, as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
We have gathered some of the best reactions below.
There wasn't many players worse then mo diame today! Back to his old self #NUFC

Thought Muto did okay. Fernandez looked solid.
The rest… good grief. If Mo Diamé was any slower he’d be going backwards. #NUFC

Diame seems absolutely lost in that midfield! Seems to have no sense of what's going on around him #NUFC #SOUNEW

If you think Diame is good. You are just settling for mediocrity!#NUFC #SOUNEW

Really wouldn’t be opposed to leaving Diame in Southampton.
