Newcastle United’s long wait for victory in the Premier League in the season of 2018/19 came to an end last Saturday as we faced Watford at St James’ Park.

After a goalless first 45, Ayoze Perez broke his own duck and scored his first goal of the season in the 65th minute and despite the narrow scoreline, it was enough for us to take all three points and give the fans and manager Rafa Benitez the win.

Watford did have the better of the game when it came to the stats, but despite having more efforts at goal they only managed one on target, whereas we got two, so it is about taking the positives.

Centre-half Fabian Schar was certainly one of those positives.

The 26-year-old replaced the injured Jamaal Lascelles at the half-time break and his introduction, along with Ki Sung-Yeung left many fans feeling it changed the game in our favour.

Newcastle fans haven’t had a lot to shout about so far in 2018/19 so they should certainly make the most of this chance, and then we hope it is the turning of the corner when it comes to our form and results.

  • I’ve been saying all season Mo Diame is not WORTHY OF A SHIRT, ANY FOOTBALL SHIRT, not just Newcastle’s.
Stick Schar in as CDM and Ki as ACM. Rodnon and Perez up top, already looks MILES better in an attacking sense. Good to see Kenedy making a defensive effort near the end, had a bad start, but HAS the talent.
Watford game was the bit of luck/turnaround DESPERATELY needed. Yedlin has the pace and effort, but gets pushed off the ball a little too easily, but he’ll also get better with games.
