Salomon Rondon’s brace stole most of the headlines following Newcastle United’s victory over Bournemouth last Saturday but another man rightly took the praise for his showing at the back – Federico Fernandez.
Taking a 2-1 win to register back to back wins for the first time this season, the 29-year-old summer signing has slowly become to look like a snip at £6million now he’s getting more regular action and beginning to really settle in and although few should get too carried away after only ten games, he didn’t put a foot wrong at the weekend.
More than playing his part in helping us to the win, plenty of fans picked him out for praise on social media following the full-time whistle.
Rondon was a beast yesterday. Exactly what we needed. And less than £6m for Federico Fernandez is a steal #nufc

People just don’t no how good and how important Federico Fernandez is to @nufc. Absolute warrior and a lesson to everyone who wants to be a defender. ????????????????????????

Absolute pleasure watching Newcastle actually try to play football. Rondon put in one of the most complete number 9 performances I've seen at the club since Shearer. Ki was dynamic and creative and Fernandez on current form is the best defender at the club since Woodgate #nufc

Two weeks in a row Fernandez has been man of the match for me. Outstanding again! Was underwhelmed by his signing but proving me wrong! #nufc

The above comments probably speak for themselves but picking up the second win given how long we had to wait for the first, and going into the November international break with that boost of confidence should hopefully serve us well for when real football returns at the end of the month.
