Many Newcastle United fans have responded to comments from a former player who thinks he ‘will always be’ a Magpies supporter.
After Mikel Merino scored a vital goal for Real Sociedad against Real Madrid to put them 4-1 ahead, the Chronicle has reminded fans what the midfielder said upon leaving the club.
Allegedly, the man who left the club for a reported £10.8m, said that he still tries to follow all of the games that they play and said that he is still a fan of the club.
Furthermore, after admitting to it not being an easy decision, he said that he misses a lot about Newcastle and the way in which the people were incredibly friendly to him there, saying that “this time was really special”.
Given that he is having an impressive season at Sociedad, many will still be wishing they had him available.
Would Mikel Merino get in our current team?
Yes, definitely
No, we have better
Undecided
His side sits sixth in La Liga as it stands, and WhoScored’s match rating algorithm claim that he is the best performer in the squad with a 7.33/10 average rating.

The Toon were able to add one central midfielder to their squad this window in Nabil Bentaleb, but perhaps Mike Ashley might be regretting letting him leave considering the season he is having in Spain.
