£18m Rated South American ‘Keen’ On Move to Europe Amid Newcastle Interest

|

Cruzeiro attacking midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta is “keen to try his luck” in Europe, according to the Sun.

Both us and Celtic are reportedly scouting the 24-year-old, although both clubs are likely to baulk at the Uruguayan’s asking price. The playmaker signed a new three-year contract back in February and he is valued at £18million by his club.

De Arrascaeta started the first group match at the World Cup in the 1-0 win against Egypt, but he was substituted on the hour mark and had to settle for a place on the bench for the rest of the tournament as Uruguay reached the quarter-finals.

Still, he is certainly a gifted player. During his three and a half years at Cruzeiro, the midfielder has made 90 appearances, scoring 20 goals and contributing 13 assists.

He was previously on the verge of signing for Monaco last year before the transfer fell through, and to be honest with you, considering Rafa’s comments on transfers today, I don’t see us breaking our transfer record for the player.

What do you think? Should we make a move for De Arrascaeta? Let me know in the poll:
