‘Win win’, ‘Oh good’ – Many Newcastle fans reply to official club post

|

Newcastle United have been drawn to face Leicester City at home in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup, it has been confirmed.

The tie took place following the conclusion of the First Round fixtures, and saw the Premier League sides not involved in a European competition – along with last season’s relegated duo of Fulham and Cardiff City – enter the contest.

Games will be played on the week commencing August 26, and will be the first time the Magpies and Foxes have faced each other in the League Cup.

Our two sides have played each other 124 times before across all other competitions, with Newcastle coming out victors on 53 occasions, compared to Leicester’s 44 triumphs.

Recent results have favoured the St James’ Park natives, as well, having beaten the King Power Stadium side in two of our last three meetings – most recently, a 1-0 win on the road in April.

However, Leicester have beaten us on Tyneside the last three times they have made the trip to the North East, with our last victory on home soil coming in the Premier League encounter back in October 2014.

Toon fans reacting to the draw have shared their expectation in that run continuing, too, with many suggesting the Foxes will win their fourth game at St James’ Park in a row as Ayoze Perez makes his return to Tyneside.

The Spaniard left for Leicester this summer in a £30million deal after the Foxes triggered a release clause in his contract, but he is yet to open his account for the East Midlands outfit, having squandered his only chance to score against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Leicester now play away to Chelsea at the weekend before travelling to Sheffield United, while we face Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur on the road before welcoming the Foxes to the North East.

Here’s how these United fans reacted to the Carabao Cup draw, when the fixture was announced on the official Newcastle Twitter feed…
