With all the questions swirling around Tyneside, when the club shared that Miguel Almiron had been called up for Paraguay’s 23-man Copa America squad, most of the replies focused on matters firmly at St James’ Park.

Almiron’s call up will give the 25-year-old a chance to earn his 16th international cap, having represented his country in World Cup qualifiers, international friendlies and twice at the 2016 Copa America.

The attacking midfielder’s first chance at another cap will come against Honduras in a pre-tournament friendly on June 6, before facing Guatemala on June 9.

Paraguay then kick off their Copa America campaign against Qatar at the Maracana on June 16, before facing Argentina and Colombia.
