Ayoze Perez was the talk of the town on Saturday when his thunderous effort found the back of Brighton’s net. Unfortunately, the Spaniard had to come off the field 15 minutes later, when it became apparent that he could not continue at the Amex with his hip injury.
Given his incredible run of form, missing the 25-year-old for the visit of Liverpool this weekend, and maybe even our trip to Fulham after that, would shatter any hopes we have of causing an upset against the title-chasing Merseyside outfit.
Thankfully, though, Perez has looked to calm the nerves swirling around Tyneside via his Twitter account…
???????????????????? Strange match: another goal⚽, not the best result and some pain in my hip… time to rest and recover because next weekend we have a important date at home! ???? pic.twitter.com/VEw4lab5GE

Perez’s strike against the Seagulls was his eleventh Premier League goal of the campaign, and fifth in his last three outings, as he continues to stretch his best season record since joining the club in 2014. His latest effort also moved him two clear of Salomon Rondon, who may have set Perez up against Brighton, but is without a goal for us since we drew 2-2 at Bournemouth last month.
When Perez shared his injury update on the social media platform, however, supporters were not focusing strictly on his goal involvement…
Great strike for your goal. Rest that hip, we need you on Saturday.
