It’s going to take a lot of convincing to take Danny Rose to Newcastle, but if there’s one thing that could do it, it could be the upcoming Euro 2020 competition.

The Telegraph reported yesterday that Steve Bruce will offer the England international a way out of his current situation at Spurs, where he has been exiled from Jose Mourinho’s side.

Since the Portuguese manager joined the club, Rose has played on just the one occasion, with the manager preferring to use centre-halves Jan Vertonghen and Japhet Tanganga than play 29-year-old Rose in Ben Davies’ absence.

Despite Rose being out of favour, getting him to the club will not be easy – and that’s even without considering transfer fees and wages.

In November, the left-back told the Telegraph that he will not be leaving the club until his contract expires in 18 months.

There wasn’t much ambiguity to his comments, either, with him stating that “people can save their time trying to get stuff ready for January about me being sold. Because I can tell you know: it ain’t happening.”

Would you like to see Danny Rose join the club?

Yes, he would be a top addition

No thanks, he isn't good enough

It might sound definitive, but a footballer’s career is short and a lot can change in a short amount of time.

With Rose now approaching 30, he knows he is beyond the peak of his powers, and with Ben Chilwell’s career on this rise, he will realise he is likely to have a short amount of time to capitalise on his international career.

He has 29 caps for his country and last featured on October 11 in England’s 2-1 loss versus Czech Republic, but was also on the bench for their last two matches against Montenegro and Kosovo.

If Rose wants to play for England in the summer, then you’d imagine he’d have to either start playing again for Tottenham or join a new team. He will be 31 at the next international tournament for England, so if he really wants to have one last crack at starting for his country at a major tournament then that could facilitate the move to Tyneside.
