Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United – Team News

|

The lineups for this afternoon’s clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been revealed.

Just the one change by Eddie Howe as Jacob Murphy drops to the bench and Joe Willock is called up to the starting eleven. Willock will likely play in the middle and Joelinton will fill the role down the left that Jacob Murphy would normally occupy.

Has Howe Got It Right With Joelinton On The Left?

Yes

No

I had called Willock starting, but didn’t expect it to  be Murphy making way, I thought he’d keep his place and Joelinton would be rested. I can see Howe’s thinking behind this one though, Joelinton will be more likely to get back and help out Dan Burn whereras on the flip side, Joe Willock will have the legs to run at Tottenham and cause them problems.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has made five changes to the team that fell to a 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford in midweek.

To me that defence looks vulnerable and Wilson along with Almiron and Willock will be able to cause them some problems, and in the middle of the park I’d expect Bruno Guimaraes to be pulling all the strings and showing Skipp how to go on.

Of course the front line with Kane and Son, regardless of form, cannot be ignored and Bentancur is also a dangerous player.

Having seen the teams, however, my confidence is increasing. Given how other results are going this weekend, a surprise win is definitely not beyond the realms of possibility.
