Toon Target Signs New Long-Term Contract

|

Newcastle target, Joao Pedro has signed a new long-term contract with Watford which runs until 2028.

Pedro was the subject of a lot of interest in the summer with Newcastle and Everton lodging bids for the young Brazilian, however, Watford were able to stand firm and hold off all approaches. Now it seems they have managed to take it a step further and convince the forward that his future lies at Vicarage Road.

Of course, we all know that footballer’s contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on for the most part. He may have signed a contract until summer 2028, but realistically what they’ve done here is increase his value. Now, if Newcastle were to reignite their interest in Pedro a £25m bid wouldn’t even turn Watford’s head. It’s a shrewd move by the Championship side to try and keep hold of their best asset for as long as possible.

It was believed that Newcastle retained an interest in signing Pedro even after bringing in Alexander Isak, but a further bid was never made, and now it looks like Watford are taking no chances on the Magpies returning in January without giving themselves as much leverage as possible.

I can’t imagine that Newcastle will go back in January now as the asking price will no-doubt be astronomical.
