Magpies Linked To Experienced Dutch Defender To Partner Botman

|

According to TeamTalk, reports in Italian outlet, La Gazetta Dello Sport, are suggesting that Newcastle may be a likely destination for experienced Inter defender, Stefan de Vrij.

Newcastle had previously held an interest in the Dutch international in the summer but opted against a move. Now, with his contract running down at Inter, it is believed that de Vrij will look to leave Milan when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Stefan de Vrij will be 31 when his contract expires, but with a wealth of Europa League experience with Lazio, Feyenoord and Inter Milan as well as Champions League experience with the latter two,  he could be seen as an ideal signing for Eddie Howe, especially on a free.

Would Stefan de Vrij Be A Good Fit At Newcastle?

Yes

No

However, Newcastle fans will remember the summer when the same ‘paper had us linked with everyone in Italy, and also claimed that Botman was Milan-bound, which , as we know wasn’t true with Botman ultimately signing for the Magpies.

That being said, de Vrij is a regular in the Dutch national team having represented his country at every level and would be a fantastic mentor for Botman in that regard, and even at 31 he could still do a job in the Premier League with no problems.

With our focus needing to be on improving our attack in the coming transfer windows, getting in a defender of this quality on a free would be outstanding business and I personally hope there’s some truth in this one.
