A report in The Sun has claimed that Newcastle are interested in Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, but have one again come up against the Newcastle Tax when enquiring about his availability.
Harvey Barnes is definitely a talent; and would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle, but Leicester are asking for £50m for the wideman, which is absolutely mental money.
Perhaps the figure was just their way of letting Newcastle know that he’s not for sale, but why not just say that? The Magpies value Barnes at half that figure, but Leicester are refusing to back down from their valuation, despite Barnes’ future being uncertain under Brendan Rodgers.
Which Of The English Wingers Would You Take?
Anthony Gordon
Jack Harrison
Harvey Barnes
This is the latest in a long line of over-inflated prices Newcastle have been quoted for wide players as their desperate search for a winger continues. Recently, Everton were demanding a similar fee for 21-year-old Anthony Gordon who has ONE season in the Premiership under his belt. Moussa Diaby has also been deemed too expensive by Dan Ashworth with Leverkusen asking for £60m+.
The Sun goes on to claim that Gordon’s representatives are still trying to work on a deal, but talks are also happening on a new deal at Everton.
Jack Harrison still looks the more likely deal to happen as he will cost considerably less than what Barnes and Gordon are being priced at, but Newcastle and Leeds’ valuation are still quite far apart and Leeds are in no hurry to let go of another top player having lost two of their main stars already this summer.
