Toon Among Several Clubs Offered Italian Striker

|

Newcastle are one of several clubs who have been offered the chance to sign Euro 2020 winner, Andrea Belotti following his release from Torino.

Everton, West Ham and several clubs across Europe have all been alerted to the availability of the 28-year-old striker who has 100 goals in 232 game as well as 44 international caps and 12 goals for Italy.

According to The Sun, Belotti is keen on a move to the Premier League after ending his seven-year stint at Torino.

Belotti has finished as Torino’s top scorer in six of his seven seasons in Turin. Last season he only managed eight goals, his lowest total, however, those goals helped guide Tornio to a 10th place finish in Serie A, their highest finish since 2018/19.

Would Belotti Be A Good Signing?

Yes - What are we waiting for?

No - He is overrated

If the report is true, I don’t know what Newcastle are waiting for here. A proven International Goalscorer with trophies to his name, no transfer fee. It’s unlikely he was on extortionate wages at Torino so he’s unlikely to be expecting anything that breaks our wage structure.

With Dwight Gayle joining Stoke, Newcastle now only have injury-prone Callum Wilson and underperforming Chris Wood as available first-team strikers. This deal seems like a no-brainer. Especially given all the knockbacks we are suffering elsewhere as people try to take advantage of our “world’s richest club” reputation.

West Ham are unlikely to make an approach now as they look to be landing Gianluca Scamacca, which leaves Everton as our main competition and you’d have to imagine that we are a much easier sell to players than Everton in their current situation.
