Many Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter after Jordan Pickford has had a dig at the press and supporters for their treatment of himself.

After a pretty turbulent 18 months or so since the World Cup, pressure has been lumped upon his shoulders after he made an error in letting Christian Benteke score past him in pretty easy fashion.

Newcastle United and Pickford have a little bit of history considering the England ‘keeper’s links to Sunderland. Toon had the last laugh this season, though, after he was seen making a save behind his own goal line when the Magpies pulled off a ridiculous comeback to nick a point at Goodison Park a few weeks ago.

After speaking to the press this weekend following Everton’s win, the player said he feels as if “everyone hates you”, though he claims to keep away from it off the pitch.

The Chronicle posted the story to their Newcastle specific Twitter page, to which many fans weighed in with their opinions, which you can read below.

With Pickford not having the greatest of campaigns, it has swung the door wide open for who should be selected for the Euros.

Dean Henderson and Nick Pope with nine clean sheets apiece will be hopeful that they can leapfrog the former Mackem in the pecking order for the goalkeepers, though, Pickford has always seemed to play well for his country.
