Time to cut losses on Joelinton

Since making his £40M move to Newcastle United from German side Hoffenheim, Joelinton has never looked remotely good enough and his lack of a performance in the Liverpool draw showed why we need to cut our losses on the Brazilian flop.

With nearly as many illegal lockdown haircuts and goals this season, the signing of Joelinton looks dodgier by the day and you have to feel there’s been some sort of an underhand deal that led United to stump up the cash for their number nine.

A recent upturn in form should not some kind of sign that he is starting to come good or ever will come good, two tap ins against Tottenham Hotspur do not make up for complete anonymity for the most part and a lack of any first touch.

The ‘striker’ has five goals in his 65 Premier League appearances, Joe Willock has arrived in January and mostly been used off the bench and has just one fewer than the ever present Brazilian.

He does not posses the strikers movement, the knowhow or the composure in front of goal to play as a striker in the Premier League, nor does he have the creativity or pace needed to play on the wing and his lack of a first touch and intricate play rule him out of being a number 10.

Name any position on the pitch and United have at least one if not two players more suited to the role than Joelinton.

This is a sentiment shared by Newcastle legend Rob Lee who, when speaking to This is Futbol claimed that his old side would not get £10M back from any sale of the misfiring attacker

“So, we need him to be scoring and creating goals.

“If you tried to sell him you wouldn’t get £10 million for him. The thing is, where would you play him because I’ve watched him and I would love for someone to tell me what his best position is.”

Newcastle will obviously be set for a massive loss when they come to get rid of Joelinton but it is time to put this one down as a horrendous piece of business and move on from the whole fiasco, he will not come good at this football club.
