Steve Bruce’s telling reception

|

Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United saw the return of 10’000 Newcastle fans to St. James’ Park for the first time in well over a year.

The atmosphere was an extremely positive one with fans in good voice throughout, helping their side to victory in the Premier League but the reception Head Coach Steve Bruce got as the players and staff took to the pitch for a lap of honour was very telling.

Bruce has often dismissed the thought of unrest within the fan base about his position as merely being ‘keyboard warriors’ but as all four sides of St. James’ Park booed the 60-year old as he made his way round the pitch, this shows just how wrong he was.

Coming after a win should tell you all you need to know, the fans have not forgotten Bruce’s wrong doings.

On the pitch, United have been awful for a lot of the season and without the chance to really vent at Bruce, fans finally got the chance to let him know how they feel.

It is not just the anti football that saw Bruce get booed by large sections of the 10’000 strong crowd but his condescending approach to how he views the fanbase is arguably a bigger issue.

His latest TalkSPORT interview where he mentioned the high expectations of the fans was the perfect example of this and fans are fed up of having their intelligence insulted.

If Newcastle beat Fulham in the final game of the season, they will finish the campaign with one more point than the last but that is not enough to give fans hope again.

Now that this horrible season without fans is over, the time is right to get rid of Bruce. Clearly, the upturn in form hasn’t improved fan opinion so get someone else in, to allow some positivity ahead of the next campaign.
