Report offers major incentive for Newcastle to make move in striker pursuit

|

Callum Wilson wants to join Newcastle from Bournemouth and is waiting for an agreement to be reached between the two clubs, a report from The Daily Mail has claimed.

The striker has been linked with several Premier League clubs this summer following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship, although it seems that a move to St James’ Park is now on the cards.

According to the latest reports, Newcastle are Wilson’s preferred destination for next season, while the Magpies themselves are desperate for strikers following the injury suffered by Dwight Gayle in pre-season.

However, it is thought that no official approach to Bournemouth has been made by Newcastle for Wilson, although that could change soon, with those close to the deal reportedly hopeful of movement in the next day or so.

It has been suggested that any deal between the two clubs could see former Bournemouth man Matt Ritchie return to the Vitality Stadium as part of the agreement that brings Wilson to Newcastle this summer.

This is a hugely encouraging sign for Newcastle, what with the season now little more than a week away, and the club in desperate need of a goalscorer if they are to have any chance of being competitive in the Premier League this season.

Wilson is someone who has shown over the years that he is capable of getting those goals at this level, and the prospect of a reunion with former Bournemouth teammate Ryan Fraser – who is also said to be in talks over a move to St James’ – is only likely to boost that attacking threat the Magpies could possess next season even further.

Indeed, this will also feel like something of a coup for Newcastle should it happen, considering the level of interest there has supposedly been in Wilson over the course of the summer so far, meaning the club should now be moving quickly to ensure this happens before any change in circumstance can scupper it.
