Newcastle United are believed to be interested in bringing Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri to St James’ Park, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has found himself to be a bit of an outcast at Anfield before the Premier League was suspended and has missed chunks of games due to his reoccurring calf injury over the past two seasons.

Since his £13m move from Stoke City in the summer of 2018, his career at Anfield has not gone the way that he might have hoped for, having only scored seven goals and provided five assists in 40 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are flying at the top of the Premier League table this year.

Despite this, the Daily Mail have revealed that we have placed him near towards the top of our summer transfer shopping list and have declared him as a “potential major signing”

The report added that the Reds will not stand in his way if he decides to switch Merseyside for Tyneside and have made contact with the Switzerland international’s representatives to sound him out over a move to the north-east.

Roma and Sevilla both enquired about Shaqiri’s services back in January but Liverpool blocked those moves as Klopp needed him for the final six months of the campaign.

With three years on his contract, there is a chance he might not be the cheapest player in the world. But at the same time, we could still capture him for a bargain price.

Without a doubt, Shaqiri would improve our squad, particularly towards the attacking end of the pitch with his passing ability, his eye for goal and his quick feet.
