Report: Newcastle face competition from Champions League club for prolific forward

|

Newcastle have joined a list of fellow Premier League clubs who are weighing up a move for Ligue 2 forward Tino Kadewere, according to reports.

Football Insider claims that Newcastle and Aston Villa are the latest clubs to go after the Le Havre forward, who has bagged 18 times in 20 games so far this campaign.

The 24-year-old forward is much to the desire of plenty of teams across the continent, according to these reports, with his team rating him at a juicy £15m.

This season has been a breakthrough one for the Zimbabwean forward, who only scored five in 23 during the Ligue 2 season that time around.

Sources in France have allegedly told the outlet that many Premier League scouts have had their eye on Kadewere, with Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City also sniffing around for the attacker.

It is reported that many of the scouts were present on Friday night when Kadewere netted the winner against Chamois Niortais.

Would you take a risk on Kadewere?

If we can't get any other forward

If we can't get any other forward

Yes please

Nope, we need someone proven

Unsurprisingly, there has been a lot of interest domestically – and Champions League Lyon are the team who have made the biggest movements. The previous report suggests that they have already tabled a £12m offer for the forward, but Le Havre seem determined to get the £15m that they desire.

With the kind of money that has been touted, the Normandy-based side are willing to cash in while he is in such demand. Considering he was bought for just £3m in 2018, they could be ready to make a juicy £12m profit – a hefty amount for a Ligue 2 team.

Is he the right man for Newcastle? Well, he’s certainly unproven for more than just this season and isn’t exactly the youngest at 24, but he is in red hot form, and that confidence could go some way for the Magpies.

His tally of 22 goals in 42 games in the French tier isn’t exactly jaw-dropping. Additionally, Newcastle have already spent £40m on a player unproven at this level who is struggling in Joelinton, so it might be a safer option to spend that £15m on a forward who has a more proven goalscoring record over a longer period of time.
