Newcastle are one of a number of clubs to have been credited with an interest in signing Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a report from Sky Sports has claimed.

It was recently reported that Arsenal are willing to sell Maitland-Niles this summer, and are looking to make around £20million from the 22-year-old in the process.

According to the latest reports, one club who could look to take advantage of Maitland-Niles’ availability is Newcastle, with Magpies boss Steve Bruce apparently monitoring the situation around the midfielder.

As well as Newcastle, it is thought that Wolves are also considering moves for the player as they look to strengthen their side this summer, although reports of interest from Tottenham are apparently wide of the mark.

Having joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old, Maitland-Niles has made exactly 100 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring three goals and winning last season’s FA Cup during his time with the Gunners.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Maitland-Niles’ contract with Arsenal, securing his future at The Emirates until the end of the 2022/23 season, and putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for him.

This could certainly be a more than useful signing for Newcastle if they can secure it.

Maitland-Niles clearly has plenty of potential to be exploited going forward, and given he is still at an early stage of his career, there is also plenty of time for him to improve further.

Given the interest there is in Maitland-Niles as well, and the price it could take to complete this signing, this could also be something of a coup for Newcastle, and one that would signal a show of intent from the Magpies ahead of the new season.
