Rotherham United have made an offer to sign midfielder Dan Barlaser from Newcastle, a report from a print edition of The Daily Mirror (27/09, p69) has claimed.

Barlaser spent last season on loan at Rotherham, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 27 league appearances to help the Millers win promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking, and now it seems as though Rotherham are keen to bring the midfielder back to the New York Stadium.

According to the latest reports, Rotherham have made a bid to sign Barlaser on a permanent basis, as they look to secure the services of a player who served them so well in the previous campaign.

It is thought that Barlaser is now likely to leave St James’ Park this summer, although it remains to be soon just how much the Magpies will demand for him in the transfer market.

As things stand, there are just under 12 months remaining on Barlaser’s current deal with Newastle, meaning he will be out of contract with the Premier League club at the end of this season.

With that in mind, it does seem to make sense for Newcastle to sell Barlaser – who doesn’t look like breaking into their first-team any time soon – this summer, then they can at least receive some sort of fee for him now, rather than letting him go for nothing this time next year.

You also feel that a permanent move would probably suit Barlaser better as well, given the added stability and certainty it would give him as he looks to push on and improve in his career.
