Newcastle United have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, as per a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, via Sport Witness.

Milik, who joined Napoli from Ajax four years ago, has scored a total of 48 goals in 122 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants, and it now seems as though the striker is starting to attract plenty of attention from elsewhere.

According to the latest reports, both Newcastle and Premier League rivals Tottenham have started to make enquiries about the availability of the 26-year-old, and it seems things may be moving in their favour.

It is thought that Roma are in advanced negotiations with Napoli over a deal for Milik, but the player himself is apparently against such a move, which could open the door for Newcastle or Tottenham.

As things stand, Milik’s contract with Napoli is set to expire next summer, but the club are apparently not concerned about losing him for free at that point, as they believe one of the aforementioned trio will sign him before then.

While it remains to be seen how much Napoli are demanding for Milik, Roma’s last offer for the forward was said to be worth €20million plus add-ons.

Given the level of interest there appears to be in Milik, this could be quite some coup for Newcastle if they can pull it off, and it may still be necessary that they do so.

While they have already made one big striker signing in Callum Wilson this summer, Tuesday night’s lacklustre performance against Blackburn in the Carabao Cup – which Wilson was rested for – highlights how big a miss he would be should he pick up an injury this season.

The acquisition of another experienced and proven finisher such as Milik would help reduce such an issue, although it seems the Polish international will not be cheap this summer, meaning this could be a difficult deal for Newcastle to pull off given what they have already spent this summer.
