Many Newcastle United fans have discussed on Twitter whether or not they should have let Kevin Mbabu leave the club.

The Swiss defender, who now plays for Wolfsburg, left the club in July 2017 for a fee of just over £100k as he joined Young Boys, according to Transfermarkt.

The same website claims he was sold just two years later to the German side for nearly £8.3m, showing that the Magpies must have missed out on some unearthed potential and value.

While it is not uncommon to see a youngster leave a big club and flourish in a lower league, there are still a group of fans who think they were foolish to sell him, as well as others who simply think he wasn’t cut out for it.

Would you give Mbabu a second chance at St. James' Park?

Yes

No

According to the Twitter page @NewcastleFansTV, the player recently discussed how much enjoyed his life when he was living in on Tyneside. As you can read from the tweet below, he discusses how young players need to be careful with so many distractions, but he calls it a “great city”, with a “huge fanbase” and even stated he would want to come back and visit the club again.

Here is what some fans had to say about his words…

It’s always a bit frustrating when you see a player you used to have flourishing in environments outside of yours, and it even makes it a bit trickier when they say lovely things as you think, ‘what could have been?’.

Nevertheless, these things are part and parcel of football. When a player isn’t doing enough to get picked for whatever reason they move.

Maybe he will return one day.
