“People Haven’t Seen What I’m Capable Of Yet” – Anthony Gordon Fires A Warning Shot

|

Newcastle’s new signing, Anthony Gordon has given his first interview for NUFC TV since signing his long-term deal at the club, and it’s safe to say he’s raring to go.

Gordon has proven to be a divisive signing amongst the Toon Army with his reputation somewhat sullied by his hot-headed temperament and lately, the way he seemingly downed tools at Everton to force a move, however, this interview may have put a few minds at ease.

The 21-year-old spoke well during his interview and only had nice things to say about the club he left behind, hoping they’d take the money Newcastle spent on him and reinvest it to help them to stay up.

Away from Everton, though, it seems like Gordon has had his heart set on playing for Newcastle since the summer when it was first rumoured that we were interested. Telling NUFC TV: “Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me.

“I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction.”

It seems like he’s extremely keen to make an impression on Tyneside too, saying: “I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”

He also talked about the Toon Army saying: “I can’t wait to have them on my side.” Then going on to praise the atmosphere at St James’ Park saying: “It’s the best atmosphere I’ve experienced in English football.”

It seems his little run-in with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar and Nick Pope earlier in the season wasn’t forgotten either as they made a joke about it when he arrived, but Gordon said he has “a lot of respect” for them as they give everything on the pitch and that’s the kind of player he is too.

Eddie Howe gave a few words on the signing too, telling NUFC TV: “I’m delighted to sign Anthony – he’s a top, top talent.

“I’m really excited to work with him, to develop him, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Newcastle shirt.”

Gordon is cup-tied for the semi-final second leg on Tuesday but will be present in the crowd. He will be available to make his debut on Saturday as we take on West Ham at St James’ Park, also live on Sky Sports.
