A lot of Newcastle United fans are buzzing for their Under-23 side after they beat Sunderland 2-0 in the Tyne & Wear derby.
Neil Redfearn’s side took the lead through an early Luke Charman penalty before Brandon Taylor was sent off for the Black Cats – after he blocked the ball with his hand when Charman was clean through on goal.
This allowed the young Magpies to dominate the game, and early in the second half, they nearly grabbed a second, but Jack Bainbridge denied Victor Fernandez with a block on the line.
The young Spaniard, though, would not be denied, and just seven minutes later, he grabbed his deserved goal with a shot that flew into the roof of the net.
In a season where the two rivals are two leagues apart, this is as close as both sets of fans will come to an actual Tyne & Wear derby, and to the delight of many Newcastle fans, it was the Toon who came out on top.
