NUWFC Are Officially A Part Of The Newcastle United Structure

|

Newcastle Women’s team are now under the ownership of Newcastle United for the first time in their history after a formal restructuring at the club.

The Lady Magpies were previously an independent club supported by the Newcastle United Foundation, but now find themselves an official part of the NUFC family following on from Amanda Staveley delivering on her promise. Staveley spoke to The Chronicle shortly after the takeover was completed: “What I want to do is invest. What I want to do is investing in the Academy is important. Women’s football is very important – I’d have loved to play football but never got the chance.”

Manager, Becky Langley takes up the role on a full-time basis as she aims to guide the team out of the FA Women’s National League Division One after finishing second last season. Speaking to NUFC.co.uk, Langley said “We are so proud to be part of the Newcastle United family. It gives everyone even more determination to make the club proud and to represent our fans and our city the best we can.

“We’ll also have an emerging talent system that will create a legacy in the North East, giving girls in the region a well-defined pathway, with the chance to enjoy playing first and foremost, as well as an opportunity to develop within the club.”

Alongside this announcement, the Ladies also revealed a new shirt sponsor for the upcoming season: North East based construction firm, Straightline.

This will be the start of the new era for NUWFC as they begin their charge up the leagues to reach the WSL. The club already holds the record for the highest attendance in a Women’s League game in the UK, and that was when they were in the fourth tier. The future is bright for the Lady Magpies.
