Many Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter the Chronicle posted a story about the club’s potential takeover.

The outlet claim that it has emerged that Yasir Al-Rumayyan – the chairman of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund – has been linked to a Β£300m takeover of the club, registered a new company with Companies House just a few days before the first reports emerged of the takeover being close.

The consortium, which was fronted by Amanda Staveley and had the backing of the Reuben Brothers, was registered on January 21. Reports from the Telegraph suggest that both Jamie Reuben and Amanda Staveley are after 10 per cent, while Al-Rumayyan is wanting the remaining 80 per cent.

As the Chronicle report, this does not allude to a deal is imminent, however, it is the first time that Al-Rumayyan had registered a company in the UK.

Football publishing editor for the outlet Mark Douglas shared the story to his followers, to which he received a pretty mixed response.

Most fans are refusing to get carried away with the rumours, considering they feel they have been here on so many occasions.

One fan even mentions how many times they have been fooled so many times before, but they are still going along with this one.
