Newcastle’s opposition pull out of race for in-demand striker – report

|

Newcastle face a smaller pool of opposition if we are to chase Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, as the Daily Record understand Eintracht Frankfurt have pulled out of the race to acquire his signature.

The Bundesliga side are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer, having just completed the sale of Luka Jovic to Real Madrid in a £53million deal.

Frankfurt had been linked with Morelos as early as March, when the German outfit were allegedly seen to be keen on the Colombian international after their Sporting Director Fredi Bobic observed him in action against Hibernian.

Eintracht’s position has since changed, however, after the 23-year-old made it clear that he would prefer to join an English Premier League side if he is to leave Ibrox in the coming months, unless the continental outfit have qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Adi Hutter’s Eagles narrowly missed out on qualifying for next season’s Europa League, though, as they finished the Bundesliga campaign in fifth place by a point, and were eliminated from this season’s Europa League in the Semi-Finals by eventual winners Chelsea.

The Daily Record also add that Morelos is no longer pushing for a move away from Rangers in the current market as vividly, as his concerns over international selection have been eased following his recent inclusion in the senior Colombia squad despite being omitted from their Copa America plans.

In The Scotsman’s report of Eintracht Frankfurt pulling out of the Morelos chase, meanwhile, they recite the link which connected us with the Gers attacker last week, along with Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

The Scotsman also add that Rangers Chief Executive Officer Stewart Robertson has confirmed that his side will only sell Morelos if they receive a similar bid to what Celtic received for Moussa Dembele, when the French forward joined Olympique Lyonnais for around £20million.
