Newcastle Will Make Ziyech Bid

|

Newcastle are expected to make a move for Morocco’s World Cup star Hakim Ziyech, according to respected Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio.

Ziyech will return to Chelsea having been a key player in his nation’s surprise run to the semi-finals in Qatar, but if Di Marzio’s prediction is correct, the forward may not be at Stamford Bridge much longer. His former club Ajax have been touted as a possible destination, but the Magpies are also in the mix, with a loan move mentioned as a possibility.

Di Marzio told Soccer News: “Ajax… That is another story, they are interested because his heart is still in the Johan Cruijff Arena. They would welcome a return. But after this World Cup… I do expect other Premier League teams to try at Chelsea, in terms of a loan. Newcastle, for example, which is aiming for a Champions League spot.

“And then it just depends on what the player wants, a rental period or a permanent deal. And I think Ziyech is going for the latter variant, so the question is which club can offer him the best project.”

If Ziyech is looking for an exciting project, surely there is none more exciting at the moment than that which is happening at St James’ Park. With Eddie Howe keen to add a wide attacker in the coming transfer window, it could be a good move for both parties involved.

The 29-year-old made the move to Chelsea in 2020 for £40 Million and initially made a big splash at Stamford Bridge. This season, however, Ziyech has found himself on the periphery with Graham Potter’s side, making just five appearances in the league.

We have also been linked with his teammate, Christian Pulisic in recent times, and a lot may depend on whether Howe is looking to secure a permanent deal or a loan deal. In my opinion, Pulisic is probably the better option. Ziyech’s work rate leaves a lot to be desired, and that is something that is not going to impress the Toon faithful.
