Newcastle v Manchester City – Match Preview

|

Sunday afternoon sees the Premier League Champions, Manchester City roll into St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United in the Sky Sports televised fixture. Kick-off: 4:30pm.

This fixture sees the only two teams yet to concede a goal in the Premier League meeting up and will undoubtedly be Newcastle’s biggest test so far this season.

The Magpies don’t have a great record against Manchester City and Eddie Howe certainly doesn’t have a good record against Pep Guardiola having failed to take three points from the Spaniard in ten attempts, something he wasn’t too happy to have seen brought up in his press conference on Friday.

Newcastle and Eddie Howe may feel they have a point to prove against the Cityzens after they put nine goals past Newcastle without reply last season, both games being played under the stewardship of Eddie Howe.

What's Your Prediction For Sunday vs City?

Howe will be hoping to welcome back Ryan Fraser and Matt Targett after injuries, although it may be a bit too soon for Targett. Whoever Howe picks is going to have to be on their A-game for this fixture, especially with Erling Haaland looking hungry so early in his City career.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that Newcastle are at a place yet where we can go toe-to-toe with City and come away with anything positive. The gulf in class is still massive and as such, I’m going with a 0-3 defeat, which is still a step forward from last season. All I want is a competent display from the lads and nobody to shirk their duties. If we can come away with our heads held high I don’t think we can ask much more than that.
