Newcastle Unveil Another New Shirt To Celebrate 130 Year Anniversary

|

The club is celebrating 130 since it became Newcastle United following the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End.

The current kits sport a 130 Years emblem to commemorate the anniversary, but now Castore have unveiled a new shirt to celebrate the occasion.

“The Newcastle United Anniversary shirt marks a special occasion. 130 years of passion and pride to celebrate the Magpie’s ambition to become one of the best clubs of all time. Inspire a legacy with the new supreme anniversary shirts.”NUFC Club Shop

It’s not clear if this will be a match-worn shirt, but the shop has replica and pro versions of the shirt like it would an official kit, so there’s a chance that we may see this shirt on the pitch for a special one-off appearance.

If that happens, that would make it the fifth different shirt we’ll have worn this season after we were forced to wear the pale blue cityscape shirt against Brighton due to our three official kits all clashing with Brighton’s home kit in some way.

Will You Be Buying The Anniversary Shirt?

Yes. Love it!

Nope. Blatant money Grab

Nah. It's rank

There has been a mixed response to the shirt in the replies to the announcement tweet with some people thinking the black and silver shirt looks fantastic and declaring their need to buy one immediately, to the opposite, with one fan declaring that it looks like a curtain, and some claiming the repeated badge motif ruins it.

The main take away is the one that I share: it seems like a blatant money grab and is completely unnecessary, especially as, as mentioned before, we are already on four match-worn kits for the season. Even if this isn’t a match day shirt, it still reeks of a desperate attempt by Castore to claw more cash from fans. It wouldn’t be so bad, but it’s not like Castore have banked a lot of good will to be able to pull off this type of move.
