The latest edition of The Athletic’s Newcastle United podcast ‘Pod on the Tyne‘ has revealed an encouraging look into where the £300m takeover is currently at.

George Caulkin has been rather reliable in this whole process with sources on either side of the deal, but particularly on the buying side of things. He provided his thoughts on the situation and claimed that the checks are at its final stages.

Speaking on the podcast [03:50], he said:

“There have been various points along the way where it looks like either the green light is about to be given or that the nod has been given somewhere down the line that everything is going to be OK.

“My interpretation of it – that’s all it is, it’s a guess, putting two and two together – is that the main bulk of the work has been done on the test, but they’re still working through questions and there were still being questions answered as of last week.

“I think that’s the final stage of the process.”

Considering all the doom and gloom surrounding the Saudi’s bid for the Magpies, this comes as hugely positive news.

The Premier League have been sat on approving the deal for nearly two months now, but Caulkin believes they’re coming towards the end of the back-and-forth questioning.

He goes on to explain how the consortium have been prepared for questions on piracy and human rights, so they’ve been well-equipped to deal with what the PL has to throw at them.

We can only hope that Caulkin is correct and we’ll soon learn the fate of this long and tiresome process.
