“I was told” – Mark Douglas delivers fresh Newcastle takeover update “from the consortium”

|

Newcastle United’s Saudi takeover is still yet to be made official.

That decision is still thought to be in the hands of the Premier League, who are continuing to conduct their owners and directors test to a rigorous level.

Will the takeover be announced THIS month?

100%

100%

Nope!

Nope!

And ChronicleLive’s Mark Douglas has delivered a fresh update on matters, claiming that there is “massive belief” from inside the consortium that it will be done in the coming days.

In a Q&A with fans, he said:

“Last Sunday I was told it would be done in a couple of days so I think there’s a massive belief from the consortium that there’s nothing substantive that will block it. It depends on perception: clearly, others think differently. Of course, if ODT is passed, confirmation could / would be a few days later anyway because money has to be transferred to MA.”

Douglas also goes on to suggest that even if it does receive approval this week, there would still be an extra wait as the rest of the money would need to be transferred from multiple accounts into Mike Ashley’s pocket.

So really, it could be another week or so before news breaks – that’s if these claims are correct.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters spoke publicly to a virtual House of Commons earlier in the week and claimed that he would like this process to be concluded soon, so it does seem like everything is coming to a head.

Whether it’ll be positive news for the Magpies faithful remains to be seen.
