Newcastle have made an improved offer of £50m for Leicester midfielder, James Maddison, but it is believed that it still won’t be enough to tempt Leicester to sell.
Even if the Foxes were to accept that bid, it’s believed that Maddison has no ambition to join Newcastle and would prefer a move to Arsenal or Tottenham if he were to leave Leicester, although, neither club has made an approach at this point.
Speaking to GiveMeSport’s The Done Deal Show, journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle may struggle to get this deal done, saying: “James Maddison has had an approach from Newcastle. The offer Newcastle have put to Leicester isn’t enough and they have to decide whether or not to bid again. They’ve not been encouraged to bid again and I don’t get any signs that Maddison actually wants to join Newcastle, from what I hear Maddison wants to join Tottenham or Arsenal. If he’s going to leave Leicester one of those two need to make an offer, that’s the latest I’ve heard”
That being said, if Newcastle were to make Maddison an offer he couldn’t refuse, there still may be a chance this one gets done, especially if Tottenham and Arsenal don’t come in for the midfielder.

Leicester have also shown interest in Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, so there is a possibility of a cash plus player deal to be done between the clubs. Of course that still leaves Newcastle with the task of convincing Maddison that a move up North would be a good one. I’d like to think if he just met with the club representatives it won’t take them long to sell him on the project.
