Newcastle Make Improved £50m Offer For Midfielder

|

Newcastle have gone back in with an improved offer for Leicester City midfielder, James Maddison according to Sky Sports.

Leicester had already rejected an initial bid from the Magpies, believed to be in the region of £40m, and it’s believed that Brendan Rodgers values Maddison at closer to £60m after saying that Newcastle’s initial bid would be enough to “buy three-quarters of his left leg”.

Maddison, who joined Leicester from Norwich for £24m in 2018, scored 18 goals and made 12 assists in all competitions last season and would be an ideal signing for Newcastle who were starved of goals last term.

Should We Just Go Ahead And Pay £60m For Maddison?

Yes. Get him signed.

No. Keep negotiating.

Eddie Howe seems keen to test Leicester’s resolve as he is aware that the Foxes must sell players in order to bring in any reinforcements. They are currently the only top-flight club across Europe’s top seven leagues to not make a single senior signing this summer.

Speaking after a friendly victory over Sevilla, Rodgers said: “There is obviously, within the club, a financial situation which isn’t ideal in terms of wanting to do business. It doesn’t mean we will be exploited and we don’t want to be losing our best players.”

“You don’t want to lose your best players and then not be able to bring any in. That doesn’t stack up.

“With James, he is looking the best he has in my time here. He is a joy to work with. I love him as a young guy, seeing him grow from when I first came in to a 25-year-old father.

“He is really pivotal to us. There is no way I would want to sell him.”
