Yesterday it was widely reported that Newcastle were interested in three Chelsea players – Conor Gallagher, Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Following on from that it seems that one of those is off the table as Graeme Potter has said he wants to keep Gallagher at Stamford Bridge and the player himself wants to stay a Chelsea and fight for his place in the side.
Newcastle are among five clubs interested in signing Gallagher, but The Daily Mail claim that he’s going nowhere while Potter continues to pick him for first-team duties.
Potter’s reluctance to let Gallagher leave is down to the increasing injury situation at Chelsea, which could also affect any approach Newcastle may make for Ziyech and Loftus-Cheek.
On a personal note, Gallagher would have been my preferred choice of the three as he’s the right age and position to fit into what we need right now and I believe he’d have slotted into the team perfectly. I’m not too bothered about Loftus-Cheek and Ziyech, but missing out on Gallagher is a disappointment.
As time ticks down until the transfer window slams shut, I’m getting more used to the idea that we won’t see any fresh faces come through the door this month. We know that Dan Ashworth has planned for the summer window as he told Sky Sports before the Carabao Cup clash at Leicester.
