Newcastle have reportedly submitted a bid for Barcelona forward, Memphis Depay. Football Espana says that a €20 Million offer has been put on the table for the Dutch international, and it is thought that the Catalan club is open to selling.
The Toon are on the lookout for more attacking options in the January transfer window, and Depay could be an ideal candidate given that he can play through the centre or out wide. He also has Premier League experience after a spell with Man Utd, although that period at Old Trafford was ultimately considered a failure.
After registering just 2 goals in 33 appearances for United, the 28-year-old rediscovered his form having made a move to Lyon in Ligue 1. Depay would score 63 goals in his 4 years in France, a return that eventually led to interest from a new-look Barcelona.
The Dutchman made the move to the Nou Camp in 2021 and has gone on to score a very respectable 13 goals in 30 appearances for the Spanish giants. This season has seen the attacker fall down the pecking order at Barca, however, with him having made just 3 appearances in all competitions since the start of the season.
Depay was said to be attracting interest from clubs around Europe in the lead-up to the transfer window, but Newcastle may now have stolen a march on their rivals with this reported bid.
