Newcastle Interested In Chelsea Striker

|

No, not Armando Broja, although that interest does still remain. Newcastle are now being linked with an interest in Timo Werner.

The German International striker hasn’t set the world alight since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig two years ago, and it seems that Thomas Tuchel might be ready to let Werner go.

Christian Falk who writes for German outlet, Bild, tweeted confirmation that Newcastle were looking at Werner as a potential striking option this summer.

There may be several hurdles to overcome to make this one happen. First of all, Werner is on significantly higher wages at Chelsea than Newcastle would be prepared to offer him. It’s no secret that Newcastle have a strict wage cap in place at the club, designed to ensure that no one player is on astronomical wages at the club and potentially causing disharmony in the squad.

Secondly there’s a belief that if Werner were to leave Chelsea, his prefered destination would be back to RB Leipzig. Although it is thought he has also been offered to Juventus.

Would You Take Timo Werner At Newcastle?

Definitely

No Thanks

Insidefutbol claims that Chelsea would be open to loaning out Werner if the interested party were to pay his full wages plus a loan fee. His wages are said to be £15m per year (around £290k per week) which is well above what Newcastle would be willing to pay, so it would seem that this is an absolute non-starter for the Magpies.

That being said, if Newcastle were to find a way to make this one work it would be a fantastic signing. He may not have lived up to his expectations at Chelsea, but there’s still a magnificent striker in there. I mean, Chelsea are the team that turned Romelu Lukaku to crap. Twice. Their record with strikers isn’t the best. *cough*Fernando Torres*cough*
