Newcastle Have £40m Bid Rejected By Leicester City

|

The Athletic are reporting that Newcastle have had an initial bid worth around £40m for Leicester midfielder, James Maddison rejected, but are weighing up another move.

Speaking after the win against Atalanta, Eddie Howe admitted that he’d “hoped” to have had attacking reinforcements in by now and that it’s looking unlikely that there will be any new arrivals before next week’s opener against Nottingham Forest.

Leicester are the only top-flight club to not bring in any first-team signings so far in this window, and it is believed they may need to sell in order to fund any incoming transfers. It is with this in mind that Newcastle have seen to test Leicester’s resolve by going for playmaker, James Maddison.

Would Maddison Be A Good Signing?

Yes

No

Maddison bagged 12 goals last season and has often been a thorn in the side of Newcastle. The 25-year-old has seemingly never put in a bad performance when he has faced the Magpies, and seeing his name on the team sheet when we play Leicester always sends a shiver down my spine.

If Newcastle were to go back in with an improved bid it may well make Leicester think about cashing in. Maddison has two years left on his deal at Leicester which means that if they hold out until next year they will see his value drop significantly, and ultimately risk losing him for free in two years. The time to do a deal would be now if Newcastle can come close to their valuation.
