Newcastle have announced the signing of midfielder Jeff Hendrick, following his departure from Burnley at the end of last season.

Hendrick made 139 appearances in all competitions for Burnley across a four-year spell at Turf Moor, having joined the club from Derby back in the summer of 2016.

Having left the Clarets following the expiration of his contract with the club earlier this summer, Hendrick hasn’t taken long to secure a new Premier League club for himself, after Newcastle confirmed the signing of the 28-year-old on a permanent deal.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Magpies, which will keep him at St James’ Park until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Speaking to Newcastle’s official website following confirmation of the deal, Hendrick said: “It’s a massive club and playing over the years, going to the stadium, it’s one of the best stadiums to play in, so I just want to get playing there.”

Discussing what he expects his experience with the Magpies to feel like, the midfielder added: “I’ve had over 100 games in the Premier League but I want to keep going and keep improving with a different team.

“It’s going to be different for me, the demands with the bigger stadium, the crowd, how big the club is, so I’ve got to take that on and keep pushing myself and striving to get better. I’m looking forward to it – I can’t wait.”

In Hendrick, the club have secured themselves the services of a more than capable midfielder at this level, who, with a four-year contract, has the potential to be a useful asset for the Magpies for several seasons to come.
As well as that, it is also good to see the club finally get off the mark in the transfer market this summer, with Hendrick the club’s first new recruit, showing that the club do have the resources and intent to strengthen their squad over the next few weeks, so they can look to push on in the Premier League in the coming campaign.
