Newcastle Are Back In The Top 20

|

Deloitte have published their annual “money league” for Football clubs around the world and Newcastle have clawed their way back into the top 20.

As the Deloitte site says, the money league is an annual profile of the highest revenue-generating clubs in the world. So it has nothing to do with how much the club is worth, how rich a club’s owners are or anything like that, it’s purely about how much revenue the club generated over the last 12 months.

Newcastle had been absent from the league for several years due to some bloke with the initials of MA who many fans had a mild disliking of. Thanks to his horrendous stewardship, the club failed to generate anywhere near enough money to be considered for the money league. With poor commercial decisions, shockingly undervalued sponsorship deals and the fact that fans were boycotting games and merchandise, the club never really stood a chance.

However, just over a year under the guidance of Amanda Staveley and her backers, and Newcastle have made €212.3m over the last year, which we expect to rise massively by the time the 2024 list is drawn up.

That figure puts us in 20th just behind fellow Premier League side, Everton, but someway off table-toppers, Manchester City who made a staggering €731m.

Given the commercial partnerships being worked on by Peter Silverstone, the fact that we are changing shirt sponsors and possibly even kit manufacturers, as well as a possible cup final and European football next term, I’d expect us to leap a few places up that chart next year.

This is just another indication that the good times are coming back. And I love it.

The Vital Football Podcast was live on Tuesday night and we got another Everton rant, some Villa praise and a right laugh at Jesse Marsch plus loads more!
