Matty Longstaff signing a new contract has been a debate which has been going on for all season, and the longer it goes on, the less likely it seems that the deal will get done.
Ciaran Kelly, a Newcastle United football writer for the Chronicle, had been responding to Q&A questions and was asked whether or not the club are resigned to losing the player in the summer.
He said he that he would not say that just yet, but he must say that the rhetoric has shifted in recent months, and with the club ‘quietly confident’ of extending his contract in November, the discussion from the club is now more about people being in his ear.
Will Matty Longstaff sign a new contract with NUFC?
Yes
No
It is said that the club feel as if Matty Longstaff has been offered a fair offer, but he has not suggested that he will accept it, as per the report.
There was a pretty mixed response from the fanbase, with some suggesting that he’s not good enough to warrant another deal, while others suggest it’s ridiculous that he’s not signed up.
Here are some of the replies…
If he leaves hell be one of the footballers to just disappear and in a few years time wondering what ever happened to him, he's not as good as he thinks he is

Resigned? They don’t even seem bothered…

Massively embarrassing and highly incompetent from the club if we end up losing him on a free.

People will want to make money from a transfer. Do they have his best interests at heart is the big question.

Longstaff has made 12 first-team appearances and has scored three goals, and has shown a lot of promise in his early time.
Obviously, he is a Newcastle academy prospect and has an older brother at the club, so it will be quite a loss if they cannot keep him at the club.
